We are a small team of experienced Educational Psychologists committed to delivering high quality psychological support to schools. We are all registered with the Health and Care Professions Council. 

 DR RACHAEL GREEN

Rachael qualified as an Educational Psychologist in 2000 having previously taught in primary schools where she had undertaken roles as literacy coordinator and SENCO.  As an EP, Rachael has worked at main-grade and management levels in local authority EP services and gained experience working in a range of settings, including nursery, primary and secondary schools as well as specialist provisions catering for the needs of pupils with complex learning difficulties, ASD, and emotional and mental health difficulties. She has also worked as part of multi-disciplinary CAMHS teams, delivering a range of mental health interventions and provided supervision for family support workers.

Rachael has been involved in the training and supervision of trainee EPs since 2003, providing supervision for trainees and qualified EP teams. She is currently a lecturer and research supervisor on the EP training course at The Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust, a senior teaching fellow at the Institute of Education and research advisor at University College London. 

Since completing her doctorate in Educational Psychology, Rachael has gained considerable expertise in ‘Dynamic Assessment’. She has a particular interest in approaches that focus on the processes of learning and how to help children to become more effective learners.

Rachael is a chartered EP, and a member of the British Psychological Society, Division of Educational and Child Psychologists and International Association of Cognitive and Educational Psychologists

JO BINNINGTON

Jo qualified as an Educational Psychologist in 2003, having previously taught as a primary teacher.  During her career as an EP Jo has worked in maingrade and senior specialist roles within local authority services and gained experience in working with staff and young people in a wide range of educational settings including mainstream primary and secondary schools, special schools and early years settings; and across all age ranges with children and young people from 0 – 18 years.

Jo has lead on borough wide projects and research. These have included the training and supervision of Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs) and the coordination and training of learning mentors in schools.  Jo has a particular interest in working with families and has gained additional qualifications in systemic family therapy. She has worked within a multi-disciplinary CAMHS service offering short term intervention and support to families. 

Jo is committed to applying psychology to all levels within schools to help bring about sustainable positive change for children and young people. Jo delivers support to individuals and groups, whilst also carrying out detailed analyses of whole school systems. Jo is a trained practitioner in dynamic assessment methods and in the application of cognitive behavioural therapy for individuals, groups of children and their families. 

EMMA JAMES

Professional Associate Educational Psychologist

Emma is an experienced Educational Psychologist who has worked within local authorities for over 15 years. During this time Emma has worked with children and young people from 0 - 25 in a range of settings including specialist and mainstream. Emma worked as a senior specialist psychologist and coordinated Educational Psychology support for looked-after children. She has considerable expertise in the application of attachment theories to learning and has worked with both adoptive and foster parents offering them consultation and training.

Emma has a particular interest in the application of cognitive behaviour therapy approaches for children and young people and is trained in applying this model to work with individuals and groups within a school setting. Emma joined Head Ways as a professional associate in 2015, working within schools and running courses for both Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs) and learning mentors.

DR FREYA MARSHALL

Professional Associate Educational Psychologist

Freya is an experienced Educational Psychologist who has worked within local authorities for over 12 years. Prior to gaining a doctorate in Child, Community and Educational Psychology, Freya was a primary school teacher. As an EP, Freya has provided services to a range of settings including primary schools, secondary schools, special schools, nurseries, and children’s centres. Freya also has a great deal of experience working as part of multi-disciplinary CAMHS teams. She has a particular interest in working with families and is experienced in running parenting groups.

Freya has specialised in mental health and well-being. She is trained in a range of therapeutic approaches and is an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. She draws upon CBT and related approaches such as Compassion-focused Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in her therapeutic and coaching practice. Freya has also been involved in the training and supervision of CBT therapists at the University of Reading.

Freya is a chartered psychologist, a member of the British Psychological Society and a member of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists.
